Nature Replaced: The Hidden Cost of Urban Growth
As cities rapidly urbanize, natural landscapes are being replaced by man-made environments—fields give way to high-rises, and natural ecosystems are substituted with curated green spaces. While these changes serve human needs and improve living standards, they also reshape our relationship with nature and alter how we interact with and learn from the natural world.

A Shift in Scale: Enter the World of the Chinese Mitten Crab
This project reframes that shift by offering an immersive storytelling experience that transports users into the often-overlooked microscopic world of the Chinese Mitten Crab—an invasive species that coexists (and sometimes conflicts) with humans in surprising ways.

Dual Perspectives: One Species, Many Stories
Using the format of a two-perspective illustrated comic, the project explores the contrasting viewpoints of humans and crabs through the stories of a fisherman, a scientific researcher, and a student. This multi-actor lens highlights how different stakeholders engage with the same ecological system in vastly different ways.

Designed for Dialogue: Science, Empathy, and the Environment
1. Create empathy-driven engagement with urban ecology through narrative design
2. Spark reflection on how urban development disrupts natural ecosystems
3. Open a conversation about how natural sciences mediate our understanding of “invasive” species and human-nature dynamics

Rethinking Coexistence: A Service Lens on Human-Nature Relations
Ultimately, this project serves as a platform for rethinking our place in the ecosystem, using accessible visual storytelling to bridge scientific, emotional, and social perspectives.
